THE BOOKS

Whitey In The Hood, chronicles my three years working in one of America’s most dangerous and crime-ridden neighborhoods, and the friends I made along the way; drug addicts, alcoholics, gang-bangers and especially a man named Ralph, who sleeps in the streets and suffers from mental illness.

The story is told through the language of my characters, which I meticulously logged, in order to bring my characters to life and give them authenticity. The language is harsh at times, but it also exposes the way men of different backgrounds, sometimes think and speak of others when in TRUSTED company, rather than in POLITE company.

The title was inspired by a song by Gil Scott-Heron, Whitey On the Moon, a song that many say was to predecessor to rap.
